I believe the most common bird watching binoculars are 8×40 power. Next 10×40 power, but there is some difference of opinion on that. Some birders prefer 8×30 because they are lighter. 5×12 are really not bright enough nor have sufficient magnification. As one of the responders mentioned, they are just toys. For bird watching a relatively inexpensive pair of binoculars are these but they are not adequate if you wear glasses.http://www.eagleoptics.com/index.asp?pid…
The 5 power is wimpy and the 12 mm is a half inch! Maybe at a sports event where compactness and a wide frame of view are pluses. But it is easy to overdo it on magnification for field use. A 10 power almost requires a tripod to keep the image from jitter in field positions. So 8 power is as strong as practical, and many are happier with 7 power, but don’t tell anyone as the blustering of idiots will mock anyone using less than 10 power. This is similar to the use of a 30-06 Grizzly/moose weapon on mere deer, under the bluster that all else is wimpy and even unpatriotic! May I suggest all the deals offered on combination binocular/cameras right now? They have image stabilization in the camera, so it is conceivable that even a 10 power could take good pictures, but the small field of view will allow most briefly-offered shots to escape! So the wise emerges to get a 7 power for fast picture acquisition, and crop the excess later, as the camera can either be set for high def/ maximum cropability, or probably already is. Adobe 3.2 (free download) will accept the USB transferred picture data. IMPORTANT, tell it to put the pictures into a file you have ALREADY created in My Pictures. Regards, Larry.
they are only 5x magnification and thats not really enough for bird watching at any kind of distance and the 12 is the size of the lense that lets the light into the binocular in millimeters which isnt very big at all. they would give you a little better view but i wouldnt pay more than 20 bucks unless theyre a zeiss or swarovski
No,Not enough field of view,Tasco makes a 7x-21×40mm that is cheap, you get A good field of view and you can zoom in for a good look
No, no good at all. These are basically just toys. You need at least an 8 X 40 or 10 X 50 for birdwatching.
No, 7X50 or 10X50.*
Yes they will be fine. Use 5x then zoom to 12x for up close.
they are just not worth having, the magnification is 5 times, just cr.p
u planning to shoot them after you spot them?
5X is good but go for 8X, u know your target better
quit smoking pot hippie. decipher your own dreams woman, oh wait you cant.
Those who have power don't know how to use it, and of course will lead to oppression
Charisma and intelligence are substitues for power
This is awesome!
